EU week activities

Rock concert, tv-show, ballet performance

 

Delegation of the European Union in Croatia this year also celebrates the European week, marking the important date in the history of united Europe,  May 9 - Day of Europe, and the 60th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration.

 

In the period from May 3-10 , variety of events has been organised to mark this occasion. The programme is a collaboration between the EU Delegation to Croatia and partners such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Royal Spanish Embassy and embassies from other EU Member States, non-governmental and other organisations.

 

The EU Week programme starts on Monday May 3, 2010 with EU days at the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, which this year includes a series of lectures and workshops on the fight against corruption. The activity, organized by the Croatian Students' Association (HAS), at the Faculty of Economics, supports Croatia in facing the challenges in this field and to compare and contrast them with experiences of other European countries. The Head of Delegation Ambassador Paul Vandoren will participate in the opening of the event that starts at 10:00 hrs. On the same day, the EU Information Centre will also host an award ceremony for winners of the "What Does the EU Mean to Me?" essay competition at 15:00 hrs. H.E. Mr. Paul Vandoren, Head of the Delegation of the European Union, will be awarding prizes to competition winners.

 

In the period from  May 3-7, 2010, the EU Week will be celebrated by citizens in a number of counties and cities across Croatia in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the EU Delegation, embassies of EU member states and other institutions. Within this road trip, Head of the Delegation will visit Zadar on Wednesday, 5 May 2010. He will participate at a Round table on the completion of negotiations and EU funds at 10:00 hrs, while at 12:00 hrs, he will join a Videoconference titled ‘Regional-EU cooperation in organising Master and Doctoral programmes in the Lifelong Learning Programme'. On Thursday, 6 May 2010, Head of the Delegation is scheduled to visit Bjelovar and participate at central celebration of the EU Week at Bjelovar main square at 10:00 hrs, as well as to a round table titled ‘EU Member States Experiences on Structural and Cohesion Fund' scheduled at 12:00 hrs.

 

On Friday,   May 7, 2010 from 16:10-17:20 hrs, Head of the Delegation will take part in ‘Hrvatska uživo' i (Croatia live) ‘Euromagazin' programme, which is a result of joint cooperation between the EU Delegation and Croatian national television HRT. The programme will be aired from Bale, Istria and will focus on EU topics. The same day at 21:00 hrs, a concert "Night in Europe", with performances from popular Elemental and Gustafi groups will be held at concert hall Pauk. President of the Republic Croatia Ivo Josipović and Head of the Delegation will open the happening.

 

The main public event in Zagreb Europe Day is planned for Saturday, 8 May 2010 on Cvjetni trg. The programme will begin at 10:00 am and will offer citizens valuable information and creative materials relating to the European Union and its Member States. In the evening, the youth event - ‘EUrban festival' will be held which will, along with a unique visual angle from the Museum of Contemporary Arts, DJs and an exhibition of EU posters, bring together many graffiti writers, skateboarders, bikers and other young people.

 

The Europe Day celebrations close with an official reception and ballet performance "The Lady of the Camellias", organised by the Delegation of the European Union on  May 10, 2010 at the Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in Zagreb.
