The exhibition 'Panting for joy: New Japanese Painting in the 90's, at the Meštrović Pavilion in Zagreb, which will be open until 21 February, provides an insight into the world of entertainment of the younger Japanese artists who worked with the popular Japanese comic Manga and anime, and whose visual symbols were transformed into paintings.
The exhibition was organized by the Japanese Embassy, Japan Foundation and the Croatian Association of Artists (HDLU). Amongst the nine authors the world's most famous one is Takashi Murakami, who has applied his arts mostly in fashion (sports shoes, Louis Vuitton handbags) and is considered to be the contemporary Andy Warhol.
While opening the exhibition, H.E. Yoshio Tamura the Japanese Ambassador to Croatia said that all the works exhibited are open to possible new interpretations and he particularly invited the numerous visitors to see the paintings of children's characters by Yoshitoma Nara, who has followers all over the world. In addition to the Japanese Ambassador Nina Obuljen, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, and Joseph Zanki, President of the HDLU also addressed the audience at the exhibition opening.
