TOP MEDICINE

Leading experts in dentistry and cosmetic surgery

"Today, our quality personnel and performance are without competition in Croatia," says MSc Marko Krmpotić, Head of Polyclinic IMED in Zagreb, which covers the specialist dentistry at the highest level as well as cosmetic surgery in full range.

The idea of bringing leading experts together was the foundation of IMED Polyclinic in Zagreb, led and owned by three excellent physicians with fifteen years of experience at hospitals and the University of Zagreb: DSc Sandra Anić-Milošević, specialist orthodontist, MSc Marko Krmpotić, specialist in oral surgery, Head of the Implant Infirmary and Coordinator of Dentistry Department at the IMED Polyclinic and DSc Aleksandar Milenović, specialist in maxillofacial surgery and subspecialist in plastic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck.

Oral cavity and jaw procedures

- By undertaking this project we wanted to cover oral cavity and jaw procedures in coordination with cosmetic surgery in one institution. To us it seemed like a good combination and now our quality personnel and performance are without competition in Croatia. The Polyclinic had started work in early 2009 and today there are almost twenty of us - nine doctors and the rest are nurses and non-medical staff - MSc Marko Krmpotić, who initiated the project, describes the concept of Polyclinics and continues:

We cover the specialist dentistry at the highest level, with outpatient oral surgery, orthodontics, prosthetics, periodontology, cosmetic dentistry and we have our own dental laboratory and diagnostics. As well as dentistry we also cover cosmetic surgery in full range. As a secondary activity, using the resources that we have, we practice dermatology and vascular surgery.

While equipping the Polyclinic these doctors were prepared for "everything possible in medicine", without limitations in equipment and space, so they have surgery unit with two operating rooms and apartment for resting after procedure. This is uniquely Polyclinic in Croatia where dentistry surgery and interventions can be done under general anaesthesia also. Frequent customers of these medical facilities in Zagreb are patients from Italy, since Croatia has recently become an attractive destination for medical tourism.

Medical tourism

- Foreign citizens who come to Croatia can expect our superior service at a price that is competitive but not significantly lower than those in their country. And they can not be because we work with quality materials as well as other top clinics in the world. Our clients have high expectations because of the great expertise of our physicians, each in their own field. We are all specialists and subspecialist and moreover, most of us have or used to have an academic career at the University.

As Dr. Krmpotić highlights, the Polyclinic holds a pre-eminent position especially in dental implantology, regarding training, equipment and number of implants.

- These are titanium implants with a ceramic abutment. Today, dental implants are offered almost all dental offices, sometimes without criteria, which is not harmless, given that it is a matter of implantation in the organism, the bone. A long-term planning patient who is looking for a high quality of service will surely find us, whether on internet or based on reference. When it comes to this type of therapy and considering that today almost everything in dentistry is dependant on the implants, this could be our greatest asset. Since implantology is our strong point, this has automatically brought us into prominence in general dentistry - MSc Krmpotić, Head of the Implant Infirmary, concludes.

Senior lecturer at the School of Dental Medicine, DSc Sandra Anić-Milošević is a specialist orthodontist. She told us that the priority in patient approach is to make them feel comfortable and to receive guaranteed superior service. In orthodontic procedures she uses the latest self-ligating brackets, which do not require additional ligation of the arch wire, the method of fixed orthodontics.

- Orthodontic treatment normally takes two years, but with self-ligating brackets it can be several months shorter, because the check-ups are less frequent and since the friction in tooth movement is reduced, teeth move faster - DSc Anić-Milošević explains.

Dr. House in reality

- Unlike the work I do during the morning hours at Dubrava Clinical Hospital, where I heal people, here in the Polyclinic I deal with beauty, head aesthetics which is my specialty, as well as other body parts. The "switch" that I make between working in the hospital and in the Polyclinic is something that overwhelms me - Dr. Aleksandar Milenović said. He is a doctor who has recently attracted the public attention when he successfully operated on a boy without an ear after he had grown a substitute ear under the boy's forearm, which is the first procedure of that kind in the world.

- It's just an idea that I had put in a real life medical story and in plastic and cosmetic surgery it is the ideas that inspire creation. Making the human body more beautiful is challenging. Our objective is to take them back in time, give them the look they used to have and make them look fresh and young, not unnatural and different - concludes Dr. Milenović, who is among his patients, because of expertise and methodical approach to every single case, known as "Dr. House". Indeed, he smiles more often and is less direct, but when it comes to expertise - he is as uncompromising as the TV original.
