CINEMA

Iranian film week

The focus of this year's Iranian Film Week in Tuškanac cinema, which will be held from March 15 until March 29, are four films directed by a cult director Majidi Majid. Majid is the first Iranian director that was nominated for the Oscar award in the Best Foreign Language Film category, with his film Children of Heaven, in 1999.

The Father, The Color of Paradise and Baran will also be screened. The main characters in Majid's films are children. The director has recognized his mission in "uncovering the child's wishes soaked with melancholy''. In strictly standardized culture and cinematography, it actually served to disclose the limitations of family or social environment that make them both astringent and impossible to be achieved. The following three films are of more recent production, made in the period from 2004 until 2008.

Ramezani's film Hayat is a thematic continuum of Majid's films. Likewise, the films directed by two directors that are well-known to the Zagreb audience, As Simple as That by Seyyed Reza Mir-Karimi, and Butterfly in the Wind by Abbas Rafei, which are dealing with the unenviable position of women in Iranian society.
All films will have English and Croatian subtitles and the Iranian Film Week is organized by Croatian Film Association and the Iranian cultural centre. More information on the screening schedule can be found at: www.filmski-programi.hr.
