Hungarian will direct "Lizistrata" in Rijeka


After the Feast of the Epiphany the rehearsals for a third premiere in this season of the Croatian drama - the Aristophanes' comedy "Lizistrata", directed by the Director of the Hungarian National Theatre in Budapest, Róbert Alföldi - begun in the HNK Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka.

 

This is one of the most versatile and world famous Hungarian artist who is known not only as director but also as an actor, painter, pianist, that is a real devotee of classical music and opera.

 

In Rijeka Theatre Róbert Alföldi will stage "Lizistrata", a play about the denial of sexual relations to men who are fighting in a war and which some theorists consider to be a first anti-war and feminist text, by trying to set Eros and Thanatos in a confrontation in a completely unexpected way.

 

The title role, mischievous Lizistrata, will be played by the award-winning young actress Jelena Lopatić from Rijeka, who will be joined on stage by stars of the drama ensemble of Rijeka, such as Tanja Smoje, Alen Liverić and Damir Orlić. The celebrated leading national theatre actress Olivera Baljak will celebrate the 30th anniversary of her artistic work with this play, whose premiere is scheduled for Saturday, 20 February 2010 at 19.30 pm.
