ENERGY OF THE FUTURE

Dr. Ikeda in search of inexhaustible source of energy

Former Japanese ambassador to Croatia, Dr. Kaname Ikeda participated in a Scientific Meeting of the Croatian Physical Society.

Dr. Kaname Ikeda, former Japanese ambassador to Croatia (2003-2007.), participated in the 6. Scientific Meeting of the Croatian Physical Society held on October 11th in Primošten, Croatia. He gave a lecture about the ITER project (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), of which he is Director General.
ITER is a large international project aimed at discovering the inexhaustible source of energy - commercially viable energy from fusion. It was launched at the Geneva Superpower Summit in November 1985, as collaboration between the Soviet Union, USA, European Union members and Japan. The People's Republic of China and the Republic of Korea officially became part of ITER in 2003, and in 2005. India joined the project.
In November 2007 Dr. Ikeda became the first Director General of a large research project with a mission to build the plant with the world's largest experimental fusion reactor (tokamak) on 180 ha area in Cadarache, South France. Experimenting with fusion will begin in 2018 in ITER.
