Donations to demining Croatia

 

Humanitarian gala dinner organized by AmCham, and supported by Embassy of USA and Canada, held on November 20, raised the donations for a mine-free Croatia, as part of a worldwide campaign the "Night of a Thousand Dinners".

 

In spite of the recession, AmCham aims at raising $ 30.000, as it did each year since 2001., and the amount raised will then be doubled by the donations of American and Canadian humanitarian organizations, through ITF (International Trust Fund).

 

- So far about HRK 4 million have been raised through AmCham humanitarian dinner events, and 263.209 square meters have been demined - the President of the Board of. Governors of AmCham, Mr. Arn Willems said.

 

Besides Mr. Willems, who hosted the event, guests were addressed by the U.S. Ambassador James B. Foley, the Canadian Embassy envoy David Fairchild and envoy of Prime Minister Luka Bebić, Croatian Parliament speaker, who said that Croatia will not be mine-free before 2019.

The event was also attended by Australian Ambassador Tracy Reid, whose guest was Diana Pleština Račan, the Advisor for Mine Action at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tomislav Ivić, Minister of Family, Veterans' Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity, Mrs. Maja Vrtarić, envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Deputy Mayor of Zagreb Jelena Vukičević Pavičić, MPs Krešimir Ćosić and Rajko Ostojić, and representatives of international organizations and the business community in Croatia.
